SDW is a design oriented multidisciplinary platform that aims to affirm the cultural industry in the region and stimulate active role in creating a better business, as well as social and political context for developing creative potential.?
The Zero edition of SDW will take place in Kurshumli An in Skopje, between 28 September and 2 October 2011. Further activities to build up Macedonian design base and its exchange with the region and beyond will be organized during the entire year. Organizer is the platform Skopje based "Ministry for pleasure," which includes Public Room, Poliplan 1to1, ParK, PLAKART, associations which are culture oriented.

Skopje Design Week is a artistic, cultural and business oriented manifestation. The idea behind SDW is to create a memorable creative experience for all participants and visitors.
The goal of the Ministry of Pleasure is to make it an international platform showcasing the work of emerging and established artists, designers and architects and a platform dedicated to providing the latest and most interesting news, articles and discussions on contemporary art and design. A Ministry is here to serve, and this one will serve a large number of professionals who can trade and make acquisition of quality design. It helps especially young designers who waste enormous time and energy till they figure out how the relationships with the business sector are done, where and how to approach, and how to become noticed.
The basic motive of the zero issue of Skopje Design Week is linking the design and creativity in to real product. Much emphasis was put on the creating certain contact with the audience and the designers. So, during the five days of Skopje Design Week 2011 in addition to four exhibitions - Young and Dutch, Ghost project, Young Balkan Designers and Miscellaneous – were held a number of workshops and presentations on graphic, fashion and industrial design by several known designers form Macedonia (both visual art, fashion design and industrial design) and the region focusing on brand management, strategic creativity, visual arts communication, developing creativity courses for kids in primary schools, presentations of domestic companies, local Universities with main presentation/exhibition on industrial design and visual communication.
And finally I personally believe as co-organizer of "Skopje Design Week", that for the first in Macedonia we were able to witness design activities and processes of creation, that made strong contribution towards positioning Macedonia and Skopje on the map of similar but larger manifestations. Also it was worth of mentioning that for the first time since the independence of Macedonia from Yugoslavia (1991) I have managed to get together all young designers at that time who were «responsible» for the bad/good design and concept development, who were responsible for creating certain advertising taste look a like big world designers.
We have managed to present the best of Macedonian design, especially fresh blood. Great emphasis is placed on cooperation with the faculties of industrial design and fashion and involvement of students in the process of work for specific clients and markets.
